Men's Basketball Stay in Control for Hard-Fought Win
BARRIE, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies delivered a composed and efficient performance on their home court, securing an 86-78 victory over the Algonquin Wolves\. The Grizzlies came out strong in the opening quarter, setting the tone with a 23-13 lead by attacking the basket and capitalizing on defensive stops. Though Algonquin found its rhythm in the second quarter and closed the gap before halftime, Georgian maintained control through disciplined execution and timely scoring.
Leading the charge was Jason Sache (Kanata, ON), who put together a standout performance with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while also contributing four assists and four steals. His ability to both facilitate and disrupt on defense was instrumental in keeping Algonquin on its heels. Off the bench, Alberto Lopez (Dominican Republic), provided a valuable scoring boost, finishing with 17 points, including a key three-pointer and a flawless 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Sean Marseille (Paris, FR) and Uzziah Glasgow (Vaughan, ON) each added 14 points, while Jomar Dela Rosa (Bradford, ON) chipped in six, highlighting the Grizzlies' depth and balance in scoring.
Defensively, Georgian's relentless pressure was a difference-maker, forcing the Wolves into 23 turnovers while racking up 17 steals. Their aggressive approach not only limited Algonquin's offensive flow but also generated crucial fast-break opportunities. While the Wolves attempted to claw their way back in the second half, the Grizzlies' efficiency proved too much to overcome, as they connected on 50% of their field goals and converted 81.8% from the free-throw line. Their ability to protect possessions was also notable, committing just 12 turnovers in contrast to Algonquin's struggles with ball security.
With this win, the Grizzlies continue to solidify their identity as a disciplined, well-rounded team. Their ability to dictate tempo, disrupt opponents defensively, and spread the scoring load positions them well as they push forward in the season.
