Women's Volleyball overcome slow start to secure win against Fleming
Barrie, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies Women's Volleyball team delivered a thrilling comeback victory over the Fleming Phoenix on October 23, 2024, at the Michele McConney Court, overcoming a first-set loss to win 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18).
After dropping the opening set 25-20, the Grizzlies found their rhythm and stormed back with powerful offensive plays and strong defensive stands. Key to the turnaround was the performance of Patrycja Sajda (Scarborough, ON), who led the team with 11 kills and 8 service aces, accumulating 20 total points. Her efficiency (.346 hitting percentage) helped the Grizzlies dominate the middle sets.
Brooklyn Smith (Barrie, ON) also made a major impact with 9 kills, 3 service aces, and 2 blocks, contributing to a well-rounded performance on both ends of the court. Ava Dubois-Wood (Barrie, ON) added 9 kills, while Emily Dixon (Kemptville, ON) recorded 8 kills with an impressive .385 hitting percentage, bringing much-needed stability to the team’s offense.
The Grizzlies’ setter Mackenzie Roy (Edmonton, AB) was the engine of the team, dishing out 37 assists and maintaining the pace of the game with strong decision-making and accurate distribution.
With the win, Georgian improves to 1-1 on the season, showing resilience and grit in their home opener. They’ll look to continue building momentum in their next match as they take on Loyalist at home on Saturday October 26 at 1:00 pm.
