Women's Volleyball Battle Hard in Narrow Five-Set Loss to Loyalist
BELLEVILLE, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies put forth a valiant effort but fell just short in a five-set thriller against the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday. Despite showing resilience and flashes of brilliance, the Grizzlies couldn’t hold off Loyalist’s late surge, dropping the match 3-2 with set scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 13-25, and 5-15.
Patrycja Sajda (Scarborough, ON) led the charge for Georgian, amassing a team-high 12 kills with an impressive .265 hitting percentage while also contributing five service aces and eight digs. Emma Kot (Weyburn, SK) was equally influential, tallying nine kills and a team-best nine digs, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the court. Brooklyn Smith (Barrie, ON) added to the offensive firepower with nine kills, maintaining a team-leading .333 hitting percentage.
Setter Mackenzie Roy (Edmonton, AB) orchestrated the Grizzlies' attack with 24 assists and chipped in defensively with six digs and a block solo. Meanwhile, Monika Kochanowski (Windsor, ON) and Nevaeh Garcia (Barrie, ON) made solid contributions at the net and from the service line, with Garcia recording three kills and four service errors but maintaining a steady presence throughout.
Despite strong individual performances, the Grizzlies struggled with consistency in the decisive fifth set, as Loyalist capitalized on their momentum to seal the match.
