Women's Basketball Fast Start Sets the Tone in Commanding Win
BARRIE, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies delivered a dominant performance on their home court, securing a 66-46 victory over Durham. A fast start set the tone, with Georgian outscoring Durham 22-11 in the first quarter, fueled by efficient perimeter shooting and strong rebounding.
Sydney Shawyer (Horseshoe Valley, ON) led the offensive charge with a game-high 16 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while Ami May (Raymond, AB) anchored the paint with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kory Hook (Barrie, ON) added 14 points, hitting four shots from beyond the arc, as the Grizzlies' perimeter attack proved too much for Durham’s defense.
Georgian controlled the glass, outrebounding their opponents 53-34, with Daija Thompson (Whitby, ON) contributing 12 boards off the bench. The Grizzlies also moved the ball effectively, dishing out 18 assists as they stretched the Durham defense with crisp passing and outside shooting.
After a relatively quiet second quarter, Georgian reasserted itself in the second half, outscoring Durham 34-21 in the final two quarters to close out the game comfortably. The win strengthens the Grizzlies’ position in the OCAA standings as they continue their push toward the postseason.
