Women's Basketball Fall Short in Heartbreaking Loss
Barrie, ON -- The Georgian Grizzlies came heartbreakingly close in a nail-biting contest against Loyalist, ultimately falling 62-61 on Michele McConney Court. Despite a spirited fourth-quarter surge, where the Grizzlies outscored their opponents 19-16, a final buzzer-beater eluded them, sealing the slim defeat.
Sydney Shawyer (Horseshoe Valley, ON) led the charge for Georgian, delivering an efficient 16 points, including three from beyond the arc. Ami May (Raymond, AB) complemented the effort with 15 points and six trips to the charity stripe, showcasing her composure under pressure. Veteran leadership from Kory Hook (Barrie, ON) also shone through as she contributed 11 points and displayed defensive prowess with four blocks.
The Grizzlies struggled early, trailing 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and fighting an uphill battle for most of the night. Despite shooting just 27% from the field, Georgian's resilience on defense kept the game within reach, forcing 13 steals and holding Loyalist to a comparable 27.8% shooting percentage.
With this narrow loss, Georgian looks to rebound in their next matchup, carrying the lessons learned from a game where every possession mattered. The team’s balanced scoring and late-game intensity hint at their potential to finish stronger in the coming contests.
