JOSH TAYLOR LEADS THE GRIZZLIES TO FIRST PLACE IN RETURN TO GOLF
Barrie's Josh Taylor finished in first place individually and the Grizzlies men's team took the title at the DC Open on Monday.
The Georgian Grizzlies golf team played in their first tournament of the season on Monday as they took part in the DC Open hosted by Durham College at the Lakeridge Links Golf Club in Whitby.
It was a tremendous Grizzlies debut for Josh Taylor (Barrie), who finished the tournament with the best score of the day posting a round of 73 to win the men's individual title by two strokes.
Georgian teammates and brothers Christian Leduc (Innisfil) and Noah Leduc (Innisfil) both posted matching rounds of 76 to finish in a five-way tie for third place individually on the day.
As a team, the Grizzlies finished the event with a combined score of 307 to take the team title as well.
This was the Grizzlies first tournament since Oct. 2019, after last season was cancelled due to the pandemic. All student-athletes, coaches and staff competing in OCAA sports this season must be fully vaccinated to participate.
With this year's modified OCAA schedule, the Grizzlies next event will be the 2021 OCAA Golf Championships hosted by Sault College which begins next Monday, Sept. 20 at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Championships will feature three rounds of play from Sept. 20 through Sept. 22 with the top teams playing for a shot at competing at the 2021 CCAA Golf National Championships presented by PING which take place Oct. 11-15 hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor.
