Grizzlies Men’s Volleyball Delivers a 13-Win Season and Program Milestones
A 13-win regular season, an OCAA Elite 8 appearance, major career milestones, and multiple league honours highlighted another strong year for the Georgian Grizzlies men’s volleyball program.
The Georgian Grizzlies men’s volleyball team put together one of the strongest regular seasons in the East Division, finishing 13-3 in the regular session while proving they could win both at home and away from the Den.
Georgian finished the regular season with a 6-2 home record, a 7-1 road record, and a 41-15 advantage in sets. The Grizzlies went 6-2 before the December break, closing the first semester with four straight wins, including sweeps over the St. Lawrence Surge, Centennial Colts, and Algonquin Wolves.
The team was even stronger in the second semester, going 7-1 after the break. That stretch included a road sweep at the Durham Lords, a five-set road win at the George Brown Huskies, home wins over the Colts and Fleming Phoenix, and a four-set regular-season finale victory at Algonquin.
That consistency was backed by contributions throughout the lineup. Aidan Watson led the attack with 140 kills, Josiah Grimm also contributed heavily to the attack with 168 points, a .441 hitting percentage, while also leading the league with 59 blocks. Ryan Vriezema was also a problem for opposing teams, putting up 120 kills and 83 digs, while rookie Colin Deighan led the team with 21 service aces.
The Grizzlies carried their regular-season success into the postseason, winning their opening playoff match against the St. Clair Saints in five sets to advance to the OCAA Elite 8. Their season came to a heartbreaking end against the Fanshawe Falcons, but the year marked another strong step for a program that remained near the top of the East Division throughout the season.
Josiah Grimm earned OCAA Men’s Volleyball East Division Second Team All-Star honours, while Devon Oliver was named to the OCAA East Division All-Rookie Team. At the 56th Annual Grizzlies Varsity Awards Banquet, Grimm was named Team MVP. Ethan Eiselt-Rolfe received Georgian’s Male Academic & Athletic Excellence Award and the team’s Coach’s Award.
Several Grizzlies also reached major career milestones during the season. Josiah Grimm his career with 109 career blocks (2012-16). Logan Underwood also moved into fourth all-time in program history with 620 career assists (2024-26), while Ethan Eiselt-Rolfe reached 349 career digs (2023-26), placing him third all-time for the Grizzlies.
With 13 regular-season wins, an OCAA Elite 8 appearance, multiple league honours, and several Grizzlies climbing the program record books, Georgian men’s volleyball closed the season with another strong step forward. The year reflected both the team’s consistency in the East Division and the lasting impact of a veteran group that continued to leave its mark on the program.
