Men’s Rugby Claims OCAA Bronze After Perfect Home Season

The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team capped a strong 2025 season with an OCAA bronze medal, defeating the Conestoga Condors 26-22 at J.C. Massie Field to finish the year on home turf in front of the Grizzly faithful. The medal also marked an important milestone for Head Coach Josh Morgan, who earned his first OCAA medal as Georgian’s head coach.

The Grizzlies finished the season 7-2 overall, including a 5-1 regular season record and a perfect 5-0 at home. The Grizzlies opened the regular season with a 27-7 road win over the Seneca Sting before defending J.C. Massie Field in a tight 29-26 victory over the Condors.

After suffering their lone regular-season defeat, falling 22-19 to the Humber Hawks, the Grizzlies responded with one of the biggest performances in league history: a 120-0 home win over the Sheridan Bruins. The dominant result showcased the team’s scoring depth, with 10 different players appearing on the scoresheet.

Kade Rennie led the way with a record-breaking performance, setting the program record for most points in a single game with 40 points, just eight points shy of the league record of 48, held by Phil Boone of Humber since 2012. The Grizzlies followed with a 37-5 road win over the Algonquin Wolves and a 67-19 home win over the St. Lawrence Surge, entering the postseason with momentum.

In the playoffs, the Grizzlies continued their strong form with a 38-10 quarter-final win in a rematch with the Surge. They then battled the Humber Hawks in a nail-biter of a semifinal, falling 15-12 in the tightest match of the postseason. The Grizzlies responded in the bronze medal game, edging past the Condors 26-22 to secure a provincial medal.

Kade Rennie led the Grizzlies with 88 total points across the regular season and playoffs. Parker England followed with 40 points, Ethan Phillips added 32 points, and Robert Allen scored six total tries, including three in the playoffs.

The Grizzlies were also recognized as the OCAA Best Defensive Team, allowing just 13.1 points per game. Kade Rennie, Parker England, Evan Mino, and Robert Allen all where named to the OCAA All-Star team. Allen also received OCAA Championship All-Star recognition, while Evan Mino also was named to the OCAA All-Rookie Team.  At the 56th Annual Grizzlies Varsity Awards Banquet, Allen was named SAA Male Rookie of the Year and Team MVP. Rylan Moulton received the team’s Coach’s Award.

A bronze medal, a perfect home record, and one of the top defensive seasons in the league made 2025 a defining year for Georgian men’s rugby. More importantly, it was the season where the culture and identity of Josh Morgan’s Grizzlies fully came through — gritty, connected, disciplined, and built to compete when it mattered most.
