Men's Extramural Ice Hockey
GENERAL INFO
- Extramural Hockey is the highest level of ice hockey offered within the Ontario college system (NOT a varsity sport and athletic scholarships ARE NOT available)
- Extramural Hockey is NON-CONTACT (no bodychecking) and players MUST wear full face shield, shoulder pads and a neck guard.
- Compete against other college campus extramural teams within the Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR), the recreation arm of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and governing body for all extramural sports in Ontario.
- Hockey is a RecCup Series sport - meaning that schools play in series of invitational tournaments from November through February annually and then go to a regional qualifying tournament try and win a spot in the year-end RecCup provincial championship tournament in March.
- Tournaments are on weekdays and are FULL-DAY EVENTS, causing players to miss class-time if they choose to play.
- Tournament games are 8-10-10 stop time periods and teams can play up to 5 games in one day.
ELIGIBILITY
- Players MUST REGISTER and play in the Intramural Men’s Hockey League, which runs out of Barrie on Wednesday evenings from October through March. Your registration fee entitles you to a tryout with either the Barrie Team.
- In order to be eligible for the RECCup Regional Tournament and/or Provincial Championship Tournament, a player must play in at least ONE (1) tournament for the qualifying college campus team prior to those events AND must still enrolled as student at the institution (either in class or on co-op) at the time of those tournaments.
