2019 BELAIRDIRECT OCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Georgian College Athletic Department is pleased to announce that they have been selected to host the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2, 2019 at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie, ON.

Georgian's bid was officially approved at the OCAA Annual General Meeting in Peterborough last week.

The 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship will bring together the final eight college teams from across Ontario to determine the provincial champions over three days of competition. The Grizzlies will automatically qualify for one of those spots as the host team.

"We are honoured to have been selected as the host for the Men's Basketball Championship," said Tournament Chair Jeff Harris. "We are thrilled to showcase our tremendous facilities here at Georgian College and all that the city of Barrie has to offer."

Georgian has been a successful host of past provincial and national championships including recently the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship (2018), Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championships (2017), OCAA Badminton Championships (2017) and the OCAA Golf Championships (2016).

This will be the first time that Georgian has hosted the Men's Basketball Championship.

"The growth of OCAA basketball across the province, along with the talent of the student-athletes and competition between teams is incredible," said Harris. "Following the capacity crowds that took in the Men's Volleyball Championship this past February we look forward to creating an unbelievable atmosphere for each of the teams involved."

Ticket packages and sponsorship opportunities for the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship will be announced in the coming months. The Grizzlies men's basketball regular season will get underway in October.
