Women's Extramural Ice Hockey

General Info

  • Extramural or “REC Select” hockey is the highest level of ice hockey offered within the Ontario college system. As such, it is NOT a varsity sport and athletic scholarships ARE NOT available.
  • Extramural ice hockey is NON-CONTACT (no bodychecking) and players MUST wear full face shield, shoulder pads and a neck guard.
  • Teams compete against other college campus extramural teams under the umbrella of Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR), the recreation arm of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and governing body for all extramural sports in Ontario.
  • Hockey is a RECCup Series sport, meaning that schools play in series of invitational tournaments from November through February annually and then go to a regional qualifying tournament to attempt to win a spot in the year-end RECCup provincial championship tournament in March.
  • Tournaments are on weekdays and are FULL-DAY EVENTS, which will require players to miss class-time if they choose to play.
  • Tournament games are 8-10-10 stop time periods and teams can play up to 5 games in one day.

Eligibility

  • In order to be eligiable to participate in the Extramural Team Program, players MUST REGISTER for player evaluation sessions. Upon completion of those sessions coaches will reach out to players regarding a spot on the Extramural Team competing in OCR tournaments and the BWHA League that plays on Monday nights.
  • In order to be eligible for the RECCup Regional Tournament and/or Provincial Championship tournament, a player must play in at least ONE (1) tournament for the qualifying college campus team prior to those events AND must still enrolled as student at the institution (either in class or on co-op) at the time of those tournaments.

Hockey Program Overview

  • Georgian currently only has one Extramural Women's Team - representing the Georgian Barrie Campus
  • In 2024-25,
    • Humber Invitational Champions (16 team tournament)
    • Georgian's Women's Team finished 1st place at the OCR North East Regional Championships
    • Georgian's Women's Team was runner-up at the OCR RECCup Provincial Championships
  • In 2025-26, 
    • Finished 2nd Place at Humber Invitational (16 team tournament)
    • Finished 2nd Place at Fleming Inviatational 
    • Finished 1st Place at Home Tournament
    • Finished 1st Place at the OCR North East Regional Championships
    • Semi-Finalists at the OCR RECCup Provincial Championships

STEP 1

Register and pay for GREC Women’s Hockey Extramural program. (If not selected, a refund will be made to those individuals) 

STEP 2

Select the times and dates for all Player Evaluation sessions that you can attend and participate in each session your register for (included in fee).

STEP 3

If selected, respond to a BWHA team invitation email that will indicate to you your status with the team and the number of games that you will be offered to participate in (no extra cost).

STEP 4

Participate in Extramural Team practices upon invitation by GREC Women’s program staff. (no extra cost)

STEP 5

Participate in OCR extramural tournaments as invited, including Regionals and Provincials

(if team qualifies)

 

  • After evaluation sessions a pool of players is selected to compete for the Georgian Barrie Women's Extramural team at no additional cost
  • In addition, the extramural team and selected players will have a regular practice indicated to them by the coaches.
  • Based on their participation at practices and on availability, players will be invited to play in OCR tournaments throughout the year
