Former Georgian Grizzlies student-athletes Colton Kalkanis and Summer Bly were named as part of the 2019 class of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Hall of Fame.
This year's class includes 15 student-athletes, five coaches and five builders. Since being established in 2003, a total of 422 individuals have earned the honour including this year's class.
Kalkanis, a male golfer, is one of the most decorated student-athletes in Georgian College history. He remains the only male golfer in Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) history to win back-to-back national individual championships which he did in both 2012 & 2013. He was also named a CCAA All-Canadian in both years. In 2013 he set a record for the lowest round at the Championship and won the title by an incredible 10 strokes.
The Barrie native was also an individual gold medalist at the OCAA Championship in 2012 and a silver medalist in 2013. He helped lead Georgian's men's golf team to silver medals in both of his years of competition. Kalkanis was named Georgian's male athlete of the year in each of the two seasons he spent with the Grizzlies. He finished his career as a CCAA Academic All-Canadian and with an OCAA All-Academic award for his work in the classroom while competing in his sport.
Bly, a women's basketball player, is Georgian's all-time leading scorer with 950 career points which also places her among the top scorers in OCAA history. She spent four seasons with Georgian (2007-2009, 2010/11, 2013/14) and was named an OCAA first team all-star in her final three seasons and was a second team all-star in her rookie season.
The Barrie native was named a CCAA All-Canadian in her 2010-11 season while also being named the OCAA Player of the Year and East Division Defensive Player of the year. She was also the OCAA East Division's Defensive Player of the Year in 2013-14. Bly was named Georgian's female athlete of the year twice, first in 2010-11 and in her final season with the Grizzlies in 2013-14. She was also named both a CCAA Academic All-Canadian and a winner of the OCAA All-Academic award.
Kalkanis and Bly will be the 14th and 15th former Georgian Grizzlies to be inducted to the OCAA Hall of Fame.
The ceremony for the 2019 OCAA Hall of Fame will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at the Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport in Toronto.
