The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) has announced its league and tournament regular season schedules for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
The Georgian Grizzlies compete in 13 men's and women's varsity sports in the OCAA between September and March each year. During this time, student-athletes from Georgian will compete in 100+ games and tournaments across Ontario.
Georgian College will host numerous of these events with all men's rugby, men's and women's basketball and volleyball home games taking place on the Barrie campus. Georgian will also host locally an invitational golf tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Club and an invitational indoor soccer tournament at the Bradford Sports Dome.
The men's rugby home opener will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 when the Grizzlies host the Mohawk Mountaineers at 1 p.m. at J.C. Massie Field. Georgian will be striving for their fourth straight medal winning season with the addition of a brand new scoreboard being used this year.
The Grizzlies volleyball teams will kick-off their season when they host the Seneca Sting on Friday, Oct. 19 at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
The men's and women's basketball teams will play their home openers on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they host their rivals, the Durham Lords.
It's a big season for the men's basketball program as Georgian will play host to the 2019 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship from Feb. 28 to Mar. 2 at the Athletic Centre. The top eight teams from across Ontario will compete for the Championship for the first time ever in Barrie. Special ticket packages for the event will be announced in the coming months.
All Grizzlies home games are open to the community with tickets available at the doors for $5. Look for an announcement of special game nights and promotions as we approach the season.
